Here is a glimpse of my summer 2019 internship! A party of 1 (me!) for 12 weeks creating videos of campers at Young Life’s Washington Family Ranch (Creekside) camp in Oregon. In addition to shooting all of these videos, which are organized week by week (you will see MAJOR improvement from week 1 compared to week 12), I also created promo videos to show various young life teams and clubs from across the world about this specific summer camp, created “skit” (funny and entertaining) videos for the session program team to invoke audience interaction during the nightly “clubs” for the campers, created short scrapbook videos throughout my internship for a variety of activities such as different jobs being highlighted throughout camp, camp speaker messages, Work Crew and Summer Staff videos, among various other things that the full time staff needed. It was an “all hands on deck” kind of job and I am extremely grateful and humbled I had the opportunity to be the one to create these impactful videos. I had to learn (on my own!) lighting, camera techniques, which lenses to use, balancing between a DSLR camera, a go pro, and a drone, interior camera adjustments (white balance, F-Stop, shutter speed), using a gimbal for shooting videos, sounds and how they were being received, editing techniques, and overall how to convert and transfer my videos from different devices to showcase my work every night to 500+ people. I did not know it then, but this internship planted the seed that was to become my desire and passion to be able to connect people through the form of videography and photography, and how it can bond people together, break down walls, and create a tighter community. This is why I am passionate about the media industry, and why it is so important to showcase meaningful content for viewers.
